Lifeguard Training Instructor

The purpose of this course is to train instructor candidates to teach Lifeguard Training (including First Aid), CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety, and Basic Water Rescue.
Notes:

The training prepares instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials and methods, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress.

Upon successful completion of the course:

Participants will receive authorization to teach the above material for two (2) calendar years. All authorizations expire on December 31.

Prerequisites:
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate or an Instructor Candidate Training certificate issued in the last 12 months or a current Health and Safety Services instructor authorization (F5736 or C3005);
  • Pass the precourse written examination with a minimum grade of 80 percent; and
  • Successfully perform all of the skills in the lifeguard instructor precourse session. The skills in the precourse session include swimming, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer skills.
